Ruth would not let Naomi, her mother in law, walk the sixty miles to Bethlehem alone. She said "Whither thou goest, I will go. Your people shall be my people... and your God my God." The two widows traveled on foot through rough roads, dangers and heat. Ruth was drawn to Naomi and the God she served. In Bethlehem Ruth gathered wheat for them to eat from Boaz' fields, and later married him and became the great grandmother of King David.
